The club has its roots in a charity event that was held in August 2011. Over two days, a group of cyclists from Great Sankey got together to raise money for The Warrington Wolves Foundation by riding from the Cumbrian coast to the east coast of Northumbria.
The event was such a success that in June 2012, the group staged another coast to coast ride, this time in Eire. Starting in Dublin on the east coast of Ireland, over two days the group rode across the country to the west coast town of Galway. Admirably, whilst doing so, they also raised £10,000 for St Rocco's Hospice in the process.
On the back of that success, and with an increasing number of cyclists wanting to get involved, in November 2012, it was decided that the time was right to formalise things by setting up a cycling club.
2014's charity event took place on 22nrd, 23rd and 24th May when many of our club members undertook the 200 mile ride from Bantry to Galway via Killarney and Lahinch.
Of course, undertaking coast to coast events such as these requires training and preparation. Accordingly, you’ll find our members out on club rides throughout the year. The club also takes part in other cycling events, notably the Wizard and the Llamas Audax and the Cheshire Cat Sportive.
